Reebok wanted to inspire tech-savvy consumers with a compelling brand experience. Sneaker addicts and the fashion conscious are obsessive about their shoes. They also love to share their experiences with their peers.
Beyond the general trend for consumers to be able to customise almost everything they encounter, “sneaker-heads” are obsessive about their trainers. Reebok’s strategy was to create an iPhone application that gave creative control to the consumer and allowed them to customise their own Reebok trainers. Designs can be viewed from every angle on the iPhone device with an intuitive control system in order to view the various parts of the shoe. Consumers touch the part of the shoe they wish to personalise then select from the range of colour or material options and even add lettering to the back of the shoe. Consumers were given the option to customise 23 different aspects of three different shoes. Other functionality gave users the option to save, share their designs with their friends and also with the larger community of Your Reebok app users.
Geo-tagging of consumer designs allowed users to see on a map view where other people’s trainers were created.
The application was downloaded more than 50,000 times in the first 2 weeks of its release. In the first 100 days since the launch in April 2009, the app had 133,262 sessions. There were over 25 purchases each day for the first 100 days.
